South Sikkim is, without a doubt, a charming city in India. Even though it is comparatively smaller than its north counterpart, it’s equally beautiful and an ideal place for adventurers and nature lovers. With that being said, here are the 9 Top Places to Visit in South Sikkim.  

Namchi

Namchi is one of the natural and architectural wonders of South Sikkim; the place is best associated with monasteries and beautiful natural settings. But beyond that, the view of the Rangeet Valley and the Kanchenjunga peak are also fantastic. A personal highlight would be the large statue of Padmasambhava.

Ravangla is the place to be in South Sikkim for witnessing the spectacular views of the Himalayas from its vantage point. Situated on a hill between Maenam and Tendong Hill, it is another beautiful South Sikkim tourist attraction.

At the base of the Maenam Hills, Rabong is a passage point for the numerous tourist attractions in South Sikkim, such as Chozo Lake, Ralong Monastery, Manilakhang, and Sakyamuni Cultural and Pilgrimage Center. It is also a perfect base for you, if you are trekking to Maenam Hill and Borong.  

  • March-June and October-November are ideal visit times.

Borong

Borong is a beautiful village and trekking destination in South Sikkim above the mountains, which gives a fantastic landscape and breathtaking views. Your trek will begin from Namchi, from where you will go to Borong, seeing the beautiful views of Tendong, Rabong, and Maenam along the way.

  • To experience Borong at its best, India by Car and Driver would recommend visiting in February as you can witness the festival by the Rangeet River. However, visiting throughout the year is ideal.

The Tendong Hill is a trekking destination enveloped by a thin stretch of land and lush green forest. Another interesting fact is that locals believe that the Lepcha Tribe frequently worships its forests. Furthermore, it was a hideaway for the Buddhist Lamas, who meditated amongst the sceneries. Overall an excellent place for you to visit.
