About thirty to forty years ago Kovalam, was known to be a tropical beach which was perfect for its traditional fishing communities. It offered its locals with fresh fruits and fish and surplus toddy. It was a hippy idyll locale which induced relaxation in the souls of its natives.

But if you wish to absorb the rush, visit the middle of the beach in early day. You would catch all the fishermen speeding up to set out for the sea to get their catch.
